We Did It!
HELPERS staff and 10 enthusiastic participants just completed a 12-week Tai Ji Quan: Moving for Better Balance (TJQMBB) program. TJQMBB is an evidence-based fall prevention exercise program for older adults of all abilities. Participants say TJQMBB “is a fun way of exercising,” “helped me gain better flexibility and balance,” and “benefited me by not falling and getting stronger in my legs.”
Another TJQMBB class will begin on August 15th; classes will be from 10:15 to 11:15am on Mondays and Thursdays at the Senior Community Center.
Call HELPERS to register for this fun, beneficial, and free exercise program. “Aging is not lost youth, but a new stage of opportunity and strength.” ~ Betty Friedan
Bergeson Nursery Tour
Bergeson Nursery Tour, Monday, August 8th. Barnesville Area HELPERS is joining with the Rollag Seniors to spend an afternoon at Bergeson Nursery in Fertile. We will meet up with the Rollag Seniors at Erickson’s Smokehouse Bar & Grill in Fertile for lunch, then travel to the nursery where we will spend about 1 ½ hours. We are seeking volunteer drivers who would be willing to carpool to this fun event. The day will begin at 10:10am when we will leave from the Bville Senior Community Center and we anticipate being back to Bville by 4pm. There is no charge to tour the nursery; lunch will be at your own expense. If you are interested in attending and/or being a volunteer driver, contact HELPERS. Volunteer drivers will be reimbursed for mileage.
The Remember Project, Wed, August 10th
Join the Fun!
The Remember Project, Wednesday, August 10th, 1-3pm, Bville Senior Community Center. HELPERS and the Clay County Age Well group are thrilled to be hosting this unique and important series of three productions that focus on memory loss and dementia. The Remember Project is a community of professional theater artists that believes in building a more dementia-capable Minnesota and Wisconsin by using the arts. The two-hour event includes a one-act play performed by professional actors who bring to life real issues connected to the care, diagnosis, and experience of dementia and how relationships can be tested in unexpected ways. The first play, Fortune Cookies, will be presented virtually at the Bville Senior Community Center on August 10th. In this humorous play, you’ll see that Mona has a great idea! This vibrant octogenarian is determined to be the first to know if her recall is slipping beyond what can be considered normal, age-related memory loss. An unexpected visit from her son David reveals that she has cooked up a way to help herself and others be on the lookout for the early stages of dementia. Following the play, the viewing audience will share in conversation about how they were impacted by the play. You can participate in the discussion as much or as little as you wish.
If you wish to view the play from your own home rather than at the Senior Community Center viewing site, you can do so by registering for the event at http://CCAW-fortune2022.eventbrite.com. You will then be able to sign on to the virtual event on August 10th at 1pm.
Please contact HELPERS if you have any questions or need any assistance with registration.
